{"id":7875,"date":"2025-01-22T19:05:51","date_gmt":"2025-01-22T18:05:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hesychia.eu\/?p=7875"},"modified":"2025-01-22T19:05:51","modified_gmt":"2025-01-22T18:05:51","slug":"anathemes_01","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hesychia.eu\/index.php\/2025\/01\/22\/anathemes_01\/","title":{"rendered":"Les anath\u00e8mes de Cyrille d&rsquo;Alexandrie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hesychia.eu\/index.php\/2019\/12\/23\/une-histoire-de-leglise-pour-les-chretiens-orthodoxes-iii\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Concile d\u2019Alexandrie<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/foi-orthodoxe.fr\/vie-des-saints\/juin\/saint-pere-theophore-cyrille-archeveque-dalexandrie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cyrille<\/a> en r\u00e9unissant ce concile avait voulu faire r\u00e9diger ou ap\u00adprouver une profession de foi que <a href=\"https:\/\/hesychia.eu\/index.php\/2020\/06\/05\/histoire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nestorius<\/a> <span id='easy-footnote-1-7875' class='easy-footnote-margin-adjust'><\/span><span class='easy-footnote'><a href='https:\/\/hesychia.eu\/index.php\/2025\/01\/22\/anathemes_01\/#easy-footnote-bottom-1-7875' title=' Nestorius \u00e9tait arriv\u00e9 comme patriarche \u00e0 Constantinople au printemps de 428. Presque aussit\u00f4t, il s\u2019\u00e9tait mis \u00e0 pr\u00eacher que la Vierge Marie n\u2019\u00e9tait pas &lt;em&gt;M\u00e8re de Dieu&lt;\/em&gt; (\u0398\u03b5\u03bf\u03c4\u03cc\u03ba\u03bf\u03c2) et qu\u2019il n\u2019y avait entre le Verbe et son humanit\u00e9 qu\u2019une simple union morale (\u03c3\u03c5\u03bd\u03ac\u03c6\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1 \u03c3\u03c7\u03b5\u03c4\u03b9\u03ba\u03ae), union &lt;em&gt;d&amp;rsquo;affection,&lt;\/em&gt; de &lt;em&gt;volont\u00e9, d\u2019honneur.&lt;\/em&gt; Pour propager au loin sa doctrine, il avait r\u00e9pandu ses \u00e9crits jusqu\u2019\u00e0 Rome et jusqu\u2019aux monast\u00e8res de l\u2019\u00c9gypte. Saint Cyrille d\u2019Alexan\u00addrie essaya d\u2019abord par la persuasion de ramener son coll\u00e8gue \u00e0 de meilleurs sentiments. Mais voyant ses efforts inutiles, il s\u2019adressa au pape C\u00e9lestin 1&lt;sup&gt;er&lt;\/sup&gt;, qui r\u00e9pondit en mena\u00e7ant Nestorius d\u2019excommunication, s\u2019il ne se r\u00e9tractait dans dix jours; Cyrille \u00e9tait charg\u00e9 de faire ex\u00e9cuter la sentence.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;C\u2019est pour remplir sa mission qu\u2019il f\u00eet porter \u00e0 Constantinople, vers le d\u00e9but de d\u00e9cembre 430, une lettre (Epist. 17 ; PG, t. 77, 105c-121d) contenant la profession de foi que le patriarche devait accepter et les &lt;em&gt;Anath\u00e9matismes&lt;\/em&gt; qu\u2019il devait souscrire.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;&lt;em&gt;Les anath\u00e9matismes de Saint Cyrille d\u2019Alexandrie et les \u00e9v\u00eaques orientaux du Patriarcat d\u2019Antioche&lt;\/em&gt;, &lt;strong&gt;MAH\u00c9, J&lt;\/strong&gt;.\u2009 Revue d&amp;rsquo;Histoire Eccl\u00e9siastique; Louvain Vol. 7, (Jan 1, 1906): 505-542. '><sup>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span> aurait eu \u00e0 souscrire, dans le cas o\u00f9 la sentence port\u00e9e contre lui \u00e0 Rome n\u2019e\u00fbt pas \u00e9t\u00e9 mise \u00e0 ex\u00e9cution. La lettre synodale publi\u00e9e par ce concile et r\u00e9dig\u00e9e par Cyrille est tr\u00e8s longue; elle est adress\u00e9e \u00e0 Nestorius et com\u00admence par des plaintes assez am\u00e8res sur son h\u00e9r\u00e9sie, qu\u2019un devoir sacr\u00e9 obligeait de poursuivre.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5792\" src=\"https:\/\/hesychia.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/940px.-athanasius_and_cyril_of_alexandria_menologion_of_basil_ii.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"940\" height=\"179\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hesychia.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/940px.-athanasius_and_cyril_of_alexandria_menologion_of_basil_ii.jpg 940w, https:\/\/hesychia.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/940px.-athanasius_and_cyril_of_alexandria_menologion_of_basil_ii-300x57.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hesychia.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/940px.-athanasius_and_cyril_of_alexandria_menologion_of_basil_ii-768x146.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 940px) 100vw, 940px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>On avertit ensuite Nestorius que, dans le cas o\u00f9 il n\u2019abjurerait pas ses erreurs dans les d\u00e9lais fix\u00e9s par le pape C\u00e9lestin, il serait exclu du nombre des \u00e9v\u00eaques et des pr\u00eatres de Dieu. Une signature du symbole de Nic\u00e9e ne suffirait pas, car Nestorius l\u2019expliquait d\u2019une mani\u00e8re erron\u00e9e\u00a0: il devait dans une d\u00e9clara\u00adtion \u00e9crite, accompagn\u00e9e de serment, condamner les opinions funestes et pernicieuses soutenues par lui jusque-l\u00e0, et s\u2019engager pour l\u2019ave\u00adnir \u00e0 croire et enseigner ce que croyaient et enseignaient Cyrille, le concile et les \u00e9v\u00eaques d\u2019Orient et d\u2019Occident. L\u2019exposition de la doctrine orthodoxe qui vient ensuite commence par la reproduction int\u00e9grale du symbole de Nic\u00e9e (sans les additions du concile de Constantinople, mais avec l\u2019anath\u00e8me contre l\u2019arianisme). Le symbole est suivi d\u2019une explication dogmatique ainsi con\u00e7ue\u00a0:<\/p>\n<div class=\"perfect-pullquote vcard pullquote-align-full pullquote-border-placement-left\"><blockquote><p>\u00ab\u2009Confor\u00adm\u00e9ment \u00e0 la foi des P\u00e8res, nous d\u00e9clarons que le Logos unique de Dieu&#8230; a pris chair d\u2019une vierge, a fait cette chair la sienne propre, s\u2019est soumis \u00e0 sa naissance humaine et est sorti de la femme comme un homme, sans cesser d\u2019\u00eatre ce qu\u2019il \u00e9tait, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire vrai Dieu par nature. La chair (c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire la nature humaine) n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 chang\u00e9e en la nature de la divinit\u00e9, pas plus que la nature du Logos divin n\u2019a \u00e9t\u00e9 chang\u00e9e en celle de la chair, car elle n\u2019est soumise \u00e0 aucun changement. \u00c9tant enfant, et d\u00e8s le sein de sa m\u00e8re, le Logos remplissait le monde entier, le gouvernait conjointement avec son P\u00e8re, car la divinit\u00e9 ne conna\u00eet pas de limites. Le Logos est uni hypostatiquement \u00e0 la chair\u2009; aussi ne v\u00e9n\u00e9rons-nous qu\u2019un seul Fils et Seigneur J\u00e9sus-Christ\u2009; nous ne s\u00e9parons pas l\u2019homme et le Dieu, et ne croyons pas qu\u2019ils soient simplement r\u00e9unis sous le rapport de la dignit\u00e9 et de la puissance (\u03c3\u03c5\u03bd\u03ac\u03c0\u03c4\u03c9)\u2009; ce sont l\u00e0 de nouvelles expressions. Nous n\u2019enseignons pas l\u2019existence de deux Christ, l\u2019un qui est le vrai Logos de Dieu, l\u2019autre qui est le v\u00e9ritable fils del\u00e0 femme, mais nous n\u2019enseignons qu\u2019un seul Christ, le Logos divin, uni \u00e0 une chair qu\u2019il a faite la sienne propre. Nous ne disons pas non plus que le Logos divin a habit\u00e9 dans l\u2019homme form\u00e9 de la Vierge, comme dans un homme ordinaire, et nous n\u2019appelons pas le Christ un \u039f\u03b5\u03bf\u03c6\u03cc\u03c1\u03bf\u03c2 \u03ac\u03bd\u03b8\u03c1\u03c9\u03c0\u03bf\u03c2\u00a0: car si nous disons, nous aussi\u00a0: La pl\u00e9nitude de la divinit\u00e9 a habit\u00e9 dans le Christ (Col\u00a0<strong>11<\/strong> 9), cela ne veut pas dire qu\u2019elle y a habit\u00e9 comme Dieu habite dans les saints, mais la divinit\u00e9 et l\u2019humanit\u00e9 se sont unies dans le Christ \u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u03ac \u03c6\u03cd\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd, de m\u00eame que dans l\u2019homme l\u2019\u00e2me s\u2019unit au corps. Il n\u2019y a donc qu\u2019un Christ, un Fils et un Seigneur, et il ne l\u2019est pas simplement par la \u03c3\u03c5\u03bd\u03ac\u03c6\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1 avec la dignit\u00e9 et la puissance divine\u2009; car, par l\u00e0, des natures diff\u00e9rentes ne seraient pas unies. Pierre et Jean ont eu aussi la m\u00eame dignit\u00e9, car ils \u00e9taient l\u2019un et l\u2019autre ap\u00f4tres et l\u2019un et l\u2019autre disciples, et cependant ils n\u2019\u00e9taient pas une seule personne. L\u2019expression \u03c3\u03c5\u03bd\u03ac\u03c6\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1 ne convient pas, parce qu\u2019elle n\u2019exprime pas clairement l\u2019union\u2009; on ne doit pas dire que le Logos divin est le Seigneur du Christ, parce que, par l\u00e0, on divise le Seigneur et le Christ. On ne doit pas dire non plus\u00a0: Je v\u00e9n\u00e8re celui qui est port\u00e9 (c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire la nature humaine du Christ) \u00e0 cause de celui qui le porte, je v\u00e9n\u00e8re ce que je vois \u00e0 cause de ce que je ne vois pas, ou bien, Celui qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 choisi est appel\u00e9 Dieu conjointement avec celui qui l\u2019a choisi, car ce serait partager encore le Christ en un Dieu et en un homme. On doit plut\u00f4t se repr\u00e9senter le Christ com\u00adme unique et le v\u00e9n\u00e9rer comme tel avec la chair qu\u2019il a faite sienne. Nous professons, en outre, que le Fils de Dieu n\u2019\u00e9tait pas, par nature, capable de souffrir, mais qu\u2019il a, pour nous, souffert dans la chair, et qu\u2019il \u00e9tait dans le corps qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 crucifi\u00e9, et enfin qu\u2019il s\u2019est appropri\u00e9, lui qui ne pouvait souffrir, les souffrances de la chair qu\u2019il avait faite sienne propre.\u2009\u00bb La lettre synodale montre ensuite que telle a \u00e9t\u00e9 la foi de l\u2019Eglise, et le prouve par le fait de l\u2019eucharistie. \u00ab\u2009C\u2019est pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment la croyance o\u00f9 nous sommes que le Fils unique de Dieu est mort, est ressuscit\u00e9, est mont\u00e9 au ciel dans sa propre chair, qui nous autorise \u00e0 pr\u00eacher dans l\u2019Eglise le sacrifice non sanglant\u2009; c\u2019est l\u00e0 ce qui nous rend capables de recevoir, par la chair sainte et le sang pr\u00e9cieux du R\u00e9dempteur, la b\u00e9n\u00e9diction mystique et qui nous fait arriver \u00e0 la saintet\u00e9. Nous ne recevons pas l\u2019eucharistie comme une chair commune, ou comme la chair d\u2019un homme plus saint que les autres, ou ayant \u00e9t\u00e9 uni au Logos, par participation \u00e0 la dignit\u00e9 du Logos, nous ne la recevons pas comme la chair d\u2019un homme dans lequel Dieu a habit\u00e9, niais bien comme la propre chair du Logos, celle qui donne la v\u00e9ritable vie. En effet, de m\u00eame qu\u2019en qualit\u00e9 de Dieu il donne la vie, et est devenu <em>un<\/em> avec sa propre chair, ainsi il a voulu donner \u00e0 cette chair le pouvoir de donner \u00e9galement la vie.\u2009\u00bb<\/p><\/blockquote><\/div>\n<p>Le concile explique ensuite une s\u00e9rie de passages de la Bible auxquels en avait appel\u00e9 Nestorius, comme autrefois les ariens. Ce sont les passages dans lesquels on attribue au Christ la dignit\u00e9 de Dieu, ou bien ceux dans lesquels on l\u2019attribue \u00e0 sa nature humaine. Les ariens s\u2019\u00e9taient servis de ces derniers passages pour prouver, \u00e0 leur mani\u00e8re, la subordination du Fils au P\u00e8re, tandis que Nestorius les mettant en regard des passages oppos\u00e9s, voulait \u00e9tablir, au moyen de cette pr\u00e9tendue antith\u00e8se, une s\u00e9paration entre le Fils de Dieu et le Fils de l\u2019homme dans le Christ. Le concile montre, au contraire, que ces deux s\u00e9ries de passages se rapportent au m\u00eame Christ, et d\u00e9veloppe la doctrine de la communication des idiomes. Lorsque, dit-il, il parle du Christ comme Dieu, ce qu\u2019il dit se rapporte \u00e0 sa nature divine\u2009; lorsqu\u2019il s\u2019attribue les imperfections humaines, nous rapportons encore ces expressions au Logos divin, car il s\u2019est fait homme et s\u2019est d\u00e9pouill\u00e9 volontairement de sa magni\u00adficence\u2009; ainsi, par exemple, quand le Christ est appel\u00e9 notre grand pr\u00eatre, ou bien lorsque le Saint-Esprit dit qu\u2019il a glorifi\u00e9 le Christ. Toutes les expressions analogues doivent \u00eatre appliqu\u00e9es \u00e0 une seule personne, \u00e0 l\u2019hypostase, personnalit\u00e9 du Logos devenu chair.
